
From the moment Brittany Debarros joined the Greater Boston Association of Black Social Workers in Winter 2024, she has been a quiet force—moving with purpose, creativity, and dedication. While she may work mostly behind the scenes, her impact is undeniable. Brittany has played an integral role in bringing GBABSW’s events and initiatives to life, using her artistic vision to capture powerful moments that reflect the spirit of our work.
A true embodiment of Kuumba (Creativity) ✨ and the values of the NABSW Code of Ethics, Brittany has infused her passion into every project, ensuring that our chapter’s message is seen, felt, and remembered. Whether through her involvement with the Communications Committee or her leadership in key initiatives, she has demonstrated a keen ability to blend advocacy with artistry.
Brittany’s excellence extends beyond GBABSW. Academically, she maintains a 4.0 GPA in her graduate studies at Boston University’s School of Social Work. Her commitment to racial justice, social welfare policy, and systemic change is evident in her coursework, leadership roles, and professional experience.
As Secretary of the Aspiring Scholars and Hustlers (ASH) Foundation , Brittany has helped raise over $10,000 to uplift marginalized youth in Greater Boston. Her work with youth in DCF custody, as a Behavioral Health Counselor at Boston Children’s Hospital , and as a school social work intern in Boston Public Schools further highlights her unwavering dedication to advocacy and empowerment.
Brittany is a visionary , with aspirations to establish community centers in Brockton and Cape Verde 🌍, expand mental health access, and publish work that centers Black voices and representation. Her leadership, creativity, and commitment to service make her a rising star in social work.
In April 2025, Brittany will be honored as a recipient of the 🏆 NABSW 2025 Cenie "Jomo" Williams Tuition Scholarship at the 57th Annual NABSW Conference—a well-deserved recognition of her hard work and dedication. She reminds us that the future is bright, and we are honored to have her as part of our GBABSW family.
