At Greater Boston ABSW , we celebrate Black history 365/24/7—because our legacy, impact, and brilliance don’t fit into just one month. We honor the ancestors, uplift the present, and build for the future every single day. This month, we’re proud to spotlight Stanley Greene, MSW, who was nominated by his peers for his unwavering dedication to our chapter and community.
As a GBABSW Delegate and Membership Committee Chair, Stanley is all about connection, empowerment, and action. He’s been a driving force behind member engagement—securing event spaces , bringing in guest speakers , and strengthening community partnerships. His leadership is rooted in Ujima (collective work and responsibility) and Ujamaa (cooperative economics), ensuring GBABSW remains a thriving space for Black social workers.
Stanley doesn’t just show up—he builds. From helping organize Juneteenth, Student Receptions, Voices & Votes, Kwanzaa celebrations, and panels, to leading opening libations , his presence is felt. His work is the embodiment of Sankofa—honoring the past while paving the way for the future. And as a strong Black man in this space, he naturally draws more Black men into the movement, reinforcing our collective power.
His dedication to community uplift extends beyond GBABSW. In his past role at STRIVE/Boston Employment Services, Stanley played a key role in strengthening job training programs that changed lives. Under the mentorship of Dr. Omar Reid and GBABSW past president and ancestor Sekou Mims, Stanley deepened his commitment to advocacy and empowerment. These men inspired Stanley to earn his undergraduate and master’s degrees, becoming a beacon of hope in his current role as clinical social worker for families navigating mental health challenges, proving that circumstances don’t define one’s potential.
Beyond GBABSW, Stanley’s legacy runs deep. A devoted father and grandfather, a strategic thinker, and a true community builder,Stanley’s passion for community building led him to launch the John Winthrop Men’s League in 2014 with childhood friends. Through grassroots organizing, the league mobilized residents, engaged elected officials, and collaborated with leaders like Senator Liz Miranda to secure $1.8 million in renovations for Winthrop Park. Completed in 2024, this transformative project epitomizes Stanley’s belief in the power of collective action.
Seeing community members take their rightful place alongside officials, law enforcement, and partners fills Stanley with indescribable pride. His life’s work is a testament to turning obstacles into opportunities and inspiring others to face their challenges differently reminding them that with support, no one has to walk alone.
Stanley Greene is the kind of leader who reads the room, understands the moment, and knows exactly how to connect and engage our members. Whether through conversation, action, or strategy, he ensures that everyone feels seen, heard, and valued—because building community isn’t just what he does, it’s who he is.
Stanley, we salute you! 👏🏾 Thank you for your commitment, leadership, and heart. Your impact is felt, and we are grateful. If you see Stanley, be sure to give him his well-deserved flowers and a warm greeting! 🌟 And don’t miss the chance to see him in action as the moderator for our M.E.N.
